Double bass player and composer Moa Glimberg is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the Juilliard School in New York City studying with Timothy Cobb, principal bass of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She graduated from the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings in Macon, GA, in 2025, where she was studying with Jeffrey Turner (former principal of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) and Daniel Tosky (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra). Moa was born and raised in Sweden, but is currently based in New York City, NY.
In 2025 Moa received the McDuffie Scholarship for “exemplary artistry”, and she was also committed to attend the Colorado College Summer Music Festival. She performed with the prestigious New York String Orchestra Seminar in Carnegie Hall in 2024, and she was a winner of the Brevard Music Center Concerto Competition and performed Bottesini Concerto no.2 as a soloist with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. Moa has been a standing substitute for the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, Florida between 2023-2025, and she served as alternate-principal bass in the Macon Mercer Symphony Orchestra. Since 2022 Moa has performed several times with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra in Sweden.
As a chamber musician Moa regularly performs transcribed parts originally written for other instruments such as cello or viola, and she strives to expand the current chamber music repertoire for bass. In 2023 she was invited to perform at the Rome Chamber Music Festival in Italy, Rome. Moa also has a passion for performing solo repertoire, and has done multiple outreach recital tours both in the US and in Sweden in collaboration with pianists such as Nicole Ying and Håkan Carlsson. As a soloist she has performed with orchestras such as the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Lund Youth Symphony Orchestra and Lund New Chamber Orchestra.
Moa is not only a classical double bass player but also has wide experience playing different genres, and writing her own music. In 2022 she appeared on the album “Cycle & Stars” as a soloist in her own composition “Under the Stars & Over the Sea” for double bass and string orchestra. She is also performing together with violinist and fiddler River Sawchyn in the folk music/improvisation duo “Duo Nord”. Some of her more notable compositions include the work “Vardag” for full symphony orchestra, and a music theatre that was premiered and recorded in 2020. In her high school years she was principal bass of Lund Youth Symphony Orchestra and Öresund Youth Symphony Orchestra.
